Artist Statement

When i look to create art i do not attempt to compose a topic. Whether it be an abstract painting, a drawing in my sketch book, or clay monster, I let my mind do the work. I put my pencil to the paper and let it flow, With my sketch book in particular. The characters on the page interact in a way that is intended yet is up to interpretation. Each set of pages holds its own story behind it that the eye can pick out in parts. When I make art, I want people to think. The reaction they have is what is important and the thoughts that one can come up with is a wild thing. I often find myself sitting and looking at a piece and pondering,”Why did i do this that way?” or ” What made me draw this person burning a peanut?” When others ask me that question, all i have to reply with is, it’s what i see. I try to create an element or a story behind the art and when it begins to flow its almost as if i can see where the piece will go next. I find that when people look at things that they can’t explain, yet the art is trying to explain it for them, they come to an agreement with the point of the piece. They make their own view on it and can then carry that memory with them. To me art is almost like writing a story. It starts out with a slow, rough idea and builds up to a great ending.
