. Strong line quality
. Effective color coordination
. Effective use of area
. Uses the background to his advantage
. Strong character development
. Uses technology to fully capture his art
. Adds music to increase attraction
The display is very well put together. The artist shows considerable evidence of putting together a plan beforehand to effectively capture his art and the work that went behind it. I have personally watched this artist grow seeing as he is a close friend of mime, and i am very proud of the results that came forward.

Heidi Thompson
. Strong use of color
. Very abstract
. Powerful movement throughout the piece
. The color contrast is strong and adds to the “pop” of the piece
. Fairly large
. Artist uses acrylic paints, despite the fine detail, it almost looks like wax
. A finer dripping effect on the piece.
The piece is very powerful both in size, color, and overall meaning. The artist finally captures the sorrow of life in an array of blues, oranges, and purples. Overall i would say the artist was very successful with this piece, in that it is able to enlighten the viewer into seeking an alternate meaning, as apposed to just colors.

. Strong composition
. Willing to experiment with borders
. Strong use of media
. Minimal focus point, strong overall piece
. Shows attention to detail with the framing
. Shows evident sculpture prowess
. Very abstract
The artists is very unique in the style that he uses and the diligence in his work. Despite the mismatching borders, they have a particular flow which is what originally caught my eye. The center of the piece is extraordinarily bland, which draws the eye to the outline of the piece. Overall id say the artist was very successful with this piece.

.Very abstract
.Effectively creates a rusting effect
.Strong line quality
.Considerable shadow technique
.Strong color choice and application
.The random numbers makes one question how personal the piece is
.I like the artists use of oil and enamel to effectively create a melting, broken down phone.
The artist shows high quality work in this display. He effectively uses oil, enamel, and collage to recreate distorted objects. The objects are fairly abstract, yet the artist is still able to find a balance between abstraction and reality. I find the pieces to be very well constructed and can easily say that the artist was successful in his investigation.
Community Connection #2-3.1.11
.Strong value
.Shows evident skill in brush work
.Creates a unique landscape
.Is able to capture the different shades of the night
.Uses the drip effect to her advantage. Makes it create objects in the fields
.Good attention to detail, though the piece is simple
.Has a good concept on distance between landscapes
.Effectively captures the light of the moon and the effects on the land.
.The piece is fairly large, showing the piece was not made in a day
The artist uses her skill with acrylic paint to recreate the landscape of a farm. Her brush strokes are critical, each one needing to capture the night light and the effects it has on the eye. The artist effectively captures this concept in my opinion. The light of the moon is landing on the land in very earth like manner. I would say that the artist was very successful.
Community Connection #1-2.15.11
.Interesting choice of material in using wood as a background
. Fine line quality
. High attention to detail
. Good sense of depth/symmetry
. Strong cross contour
. The artist uses a single character, yet shows his complete body through 3 different figures which i found interesting
. Fine attention to shading/ shadow value
The artist uses his skill to capture the single character in a variety of ways. In the center, we see a single figure with fine attention to detail and shading. On the sides, we see just that, the characters sides. These two bodiesĀ have very detailed contour which reveals the true skill of the artist. I enjoy how the artist used a panel of wood as his background for the piece. It is not something that is unknown, but his craft is unique to many artists. The piece shows a high level of skill and time. Although it is a simple piece, it is relatively bold and to me, powerful. The title of the piece also adds to the value of it, in that peep show reveals a lot about the characters, and perhaps ourselves. I would also go out to say that the artist was attempting to make us look at our own personal demons.

. I chose this piece because it depicts the evolution from ape to man.
. The artist has very strong artistic skills with attention to detail and brush work.

. The ape is also sitting in a pool of blood, perhaps to show the wrong doing of man.
. The piece is fairly large, showing the amount of time and work put into the piece.
. There seems to be a sort of halo near the child, its significance is underminded.

Community Connection #5-12/12/10
. The artist has a unique sculpting style, using every day objects to create a very interesting piece.
. The size of the sculpture is certainly something to pay attention to.
. The piece almost looks like a bug creature of some sort, perhaps to the artists choice, perhaps not.
. The use of tire as a sculpting material is unique, in that it is not easy to work with.
. I like the name of the piece, almost signifying a transformation in the “creature” that is depicted.
. the piece shows evidence of good work ethic and it is obvious that a good amount of time was put into the piece.
. I like that the artist used irregular materials in his work. It shows the dedication to detail and a strong background.
. The artist uses a unique sense of shapes to create a sort of figure, whether it be purposeful is up to the viewer.
. There is an interesting use in metal and wood pieces. The main material used is tire, which is difficult to manipulate.
. The piece is also fairly large, showing that the task of completing it was not easy.
Community Connection #4-11/16/10
.The piece is fairly abstract, while maintaining a sense of humanity
.I like how the artist was not particularly worried about shape or line quality
.The characters lack a definitive shape, making it seem as if they are falling apart.
.The artist used a variety of media, which gives the piece a very powerful color aspect.
.The artist chose to use pencil and darker materials, which i found curious.
.The artist has a very painterly style, giving the piece a unique look.
.I like how the piece isn’t made up of one media, but rather a variety of mediums that make it stand out.
. I find it interesting how the artist neglects to give his pieces names, perhaps there is a purpose for this.
.The piece could represent friendship or bonds between people
.I like the use of panel as apposed to canvas
.There is an evident amount of work behind the piece, but i question the structural ideas behind the piece.
Community Connection #3-10/2/10
.The mixed media gives the piece an interesting 3-D effect
.I like how there are different symbols and faces that can be interpreted
.The use of water colors makes for a rich background
.The use of many materials attracts the eye
.The artists bold brush strokes make certain distinct figures
.The name fits the piece well, it certainly looks like an out of earth dream
.The characters could symbolize life and death, with skeletal shapes and other figures
.The flowers could symbolize new life
.The moon catches the eye in the left corner of the piece
.The size of the piece shows the artists dedication to his work
Community Connection #2-9/28/10
Kimber Berry-Liquid landscape 20
. The artist doesn’t have specific themes to the painting, making it stand out
. There is evident use of water colors and acrylic paint
. I was intrigued by the aquatic feel of the painting
.The darker colors on the rim of the piece stand out, clashing with the brighter colors
.The pieces size shows the amount of effort put into the piece
.The artists materials are interesting, the piece was painting are a very large canvas which must have taken time
.I like how the two green figures in the center of the piece are identicle, yet have no solid shape or figure
.I feel the artist used her colors for characters
.The use of clashing colors is certainly one of the artists strong points
.The fact that this is piece #20 in a series shows the devotion of the artist in her work
Community Connection #1-9/14/10
Ingrid Dee Magidson-Fairytales
. The artists attention to detail shows a display of skill
.The mixed media such as acrylic and oil paints make the piece stand out
.The writing on the piece is hardly legible, perhaps a personal note from the artist
.The characters displayed are nearly identical, which is difficult for any artist
. The character on the right is holding her heart, perhaps a personal touch of the artist
.I find it interesting that the artist was able to make the character look so alike from the dresses to the background
.The two characters have different markings on their faces, which appear to be some type of forest theme
.The mirrored perception of the painting makes it stand out to me
.The abstraction of the piece also makes it stand out
.The fact that the painting is 4 feet by 5 feet shows that the artist took a long time to make this piece

Seth Rainville- Baghdad Bedtime Stories
http://www.ferringallery.com/dynamic/artist.asp?ArtistID=387
The piece is a plate that is designed to look like a mirror and is 3″ wide by 14″ long. The artist used clay to make the piece and after firing it, added underglaze to create the painting in the center of the piece. After the underglaze was added, he applied a variety of gray, white, and black glaze to go over the underglaze and give it a particular shine. The painting in the center of the plate depicts a father in Baghdad, reading to his son to fall asleep as he stands gaurd at the door. The fathers gun is standing in the doorway, reflecting both the war and the poor parenting on his behalf.
The piece stood out to me mainly because of the attention to detail in the painting. The artist used underglaze to make the piece stand out and also gave it a sort of intensity and underlying meaning. The piece is unique to others, not because of the ceramic work but because of the effort and work put into the piece.

Hayne Bayless- Pitcher
http://www.sidewaysstudio.com/detail_154.html
The piece is 12″ high, 10″ in width and 6″ in diameter. The artist used clay and put it through a slab roller to make long thin strips of clay. The artist also used extrusions, which are pressed out pieces of clay to make a tube like shape. The artist used this to create the handle, the lip of the pot, and the legs at the bottom of the piece. To give the pot color and life, the artist added inlaid black slip, which is a paint like substance made of clay. He also used shino glaze to give the piece a particular sparkle.
This piece stood out to me because of the unique style behind the artists work. It seems that the pieces are something out of a dream, with the colors and shapes inside the pot. The extrusions also add an interesting look to the piece. The way the artist designed the piece was intended to attract the eye, which he does successfully.

Senam Emami- Tulip vase-picture 1
http://sanamemami.com/?page_id=141
The piece is 11 inches high and roughly 7 inches wide. Senam used Porcelain, under-glaze and glaze. The squid-like arms to hold the tulips have a copper, scaly look to them. The artist uses patterns from Iranian and Islam art and architecture to gain her inspiration. The patterns, although intricate, are simple circles, triangles and squares.
This piece stood out to me because of the arms that stick out of the pots and the unique colors and patterns. The arms make the pot has have a unique texture and design to them. The artist made it appear that the arms resemble the scales of a reptile. The copper colors make this more prevalent. The artists color use and patterns also made the piece stand out to me.

Nicholas Bernard- Amphora
http://www.armstronggallery.net/artists/bernard.htm
The piece is 14″ high by 9 wide. and is made of clay, engobe and oxides. After the artist finished throwing the pot on a potters wheel, he applied heavy slip to give it the drip-like texture. The thick texture gives the pot a unique look and magnifies the colors. The two handles are vine-like and contrast with one another with the twisting of the clay.
The piece stood out to me because of it’s shape, colors, and attention to detail. The artist utilized the slip to give the drip texture which caught my attention. The colors used also make the pot stand due to the rusty look that it gives the piece. The attention to detail cannot be ignored as well, from the twisting handles to the thin neck.

Michail David’s- Population aqua blue with yellow and pink
The piece is mixed media and shows a variety of difference shades of color. The main color being blue, which gives the piece a very water type of feeling to it. It only seems like the piece is bubbling before your eyes when you look closely. In the background of the piece are bits and shades of greens and pinks. This reminds me of a marsh land or a swamp. The artist utilized the colors to help them focus on the blues. He also used oil and wax to give the piece the aqua feel that it holds so well.
This piece stood out to me because of the use of his materials. He made the piece stand out and the different sections to it truly makes it unique. The foam effect that he uses also attracts the eye. Also, there isn’t solid edges to the piece. The sides to it are thrown off with different thicknesses and shapes. The blue seems to almost be pouring off the piece.
Community Connection #3
Kevin Sonmor-Portraits
I chose one of Kevin Sonmor’s 150 portraits. This one is a horse standing in the middle of the piece. It seems to almost be crying blood by the use of oil pastels. The horse is very strong in its pose just by the boldness of the piece. The shades around it make the piece depressed and dark while the tan colors seem to try to bring the horse to life. The shades and colors that are used on the horse makes it seem as if it were breaking down especially on the face. It almost seems like the horse is decaying while it still lives.
This piece stood out to me because of the exceptional use of shades and colors. It brought out a variety of emotions to the piece and almost made the horse come to life. The use of the darker shades are helpful to make the horse stand out more.
Community Connection #2
Michael Beauchemin- Howdy Doody Look-alike losers
The piece gives off a very funky feeling to it. The distortion of the colors almost tricks with the mind. Also the repeating characters makes it look like its almost a photograph but it is indeed a painting with acrylic and oil pastel. The different shades make the piece stand out as apposed to others. You can also see a boy who seems to be reappearing with different emotions and expressions. The piece holds a lot behind it with the characters and the old style home that is portrayed.
The piece stood out to me because of its odd characters and the use of colors is fantastic. The artist uses his elements to bring out the most in the characters and make them look very similar. Also there is an indicated shading that is evident that brings out the different emotions of the characters.
Community Connection #1
Joshua Meyer-Untitled 14
The piece is oil on canvas and is trying to reveal a character. He uses the blots of oil to show the character through different segments. The girl seems to be broken apart and almost melting. Yet you can still pick out the details in her face. The piece was done on canvas but it looks like the artist used more material to add onto the piece and make it more 3D. He uses this effect to show her face and the wrinkles of her clothes. It also almost seems that you can see the bones in the wrist by the effect of the oil.
I chose this piece because it revealed a lot of the character despite the fact that the piece looks sloppy at first. The artist took advantage of the 3D effect of his piece to make the girl look more realistic. I liked the style that the artist chose to use and the size of the painting is smaller then others which is unique. The amount of detail that was done on the small canvas was interesting.
